For the 2 methods that are used to monitor the development of children I shall be looking at developmental screening and also growth monitoring. The developmental screening is regular visits that the child takes to go see doctors and nurses so that they can monitor and track that child’s health and development throughout their younger years, to see if they are meeting the correct milestones and has the average health throughout their life. By doing the screenings they can see if that child is meeting and learning the skills when that child should and if there are any delays in this as if the child has delays this can cause problems. They also look at the child’s height also and measure this every time that the child is weighed as this is also important when it comes to a child’s health. The child’s height and weight is recorded down each time and a road to health card, this is so they can make sure that they can keep track of that child’s height and weight, they are then going to be able to see if that child is gaining or even losing weight each time that child is weighed, as this can be a good or bad thing. A chart is then checked and this is called a growth chart and this is so the doctors are able to see if that child’s weight is in the average weight for the children’s age and also their height. But if the child they are examining is underweight the doctors are able to give that child food supplements which are available at the clinics where they are examined but if the child is extremely underweight where it comes dangerous, the child must be referred to a hospital where they can get special help and this is also the same if the child is too overweight. If the child is too over weight, the child can be put on a diet so they are then able to become the average and healthy weight the child is able to live a healthy life and so they are able to reach all the mile stones and learn all the skills they have to, to live a normal life.
