Calfus 'The Alpha's Quandary'
The Alpha’s Quandary
Calfus rose from nothing. A mother and father that couldn’t provide in their pack, a family shattered by their animalistic greed for the position of alpha. Calfus learned at a young age that in order to provide for his stomach, it was no one’s job but his own. His pack hardly a union, but a loose collection of wolves who fear a lonesome life. Long Summers and cold Winters passed, all while he learned what he needed and fended for his life. One day, Calfus confronted his parents as to why he wasn’t given their bread. “The weak shall fall through the cracks of our world. The strong will stand atop it’s shoulders and roar.” From that day, Calfus exiled himself from the pack in search of a better life altogether. Three days

A spectral being appears and tells of a land unseen by his kind. “This land bares great feasts on four legs, rivers of pure transparency, and elements of perfect moderation”. Calfus, unknowing of the mirages truth, had some skepticism towards these promises. “How am I to be sure that these things you say are true?”, Calfus replies. In an act of conjuration, a sleeping baby deer formed in front of him. The spirit answered, “The lands I speak of are like this doe. You can have it, but only if you collect the courage to go for it and not look back in regret.” The mysterious being slowly faded into the atmosphere, leaving Calfus with his first decision on his journey. Hungry, and out of options, he had to what his body demanded. A swift snap at the neck, and a soul began to rise. Calfus knew that in order to survive he couldn’t look back, and so he began his journey to this mythic place. Days passed and Calfus had to make decisions that made him question his moral compass, but nevertheless, he heard the echo of the spirits words, which pushed him forward. The thought of never knowing wether this place was real or not kept him afloat. One day, a pack approached within the vicinity in …show more content…
He was found, and the pack were indecisive as to wether or not they should kill him. The alpha of their pack, Virgil rose from the shadows and uttered. “This wolf has fought alone for a reason we know not. WE will not kill him. I will kill him. If you manage to take me down, you will assume my leadership.” “But you’re not of my concern, I just want to get to where I’m going is all.” Calfus replied. The alpha looked at his pack members and retorted with “And where might that be?” Calfus breathed in slowly and said “A land promised to me by what seemed to be an angel.” In sudden realization, Virgil figured out that Calfus was headed to the same place as his pack. To end this quarrel quickly, Virgil leaped at Calfus’ throat. Calfus, quick as he is, dodges the fangs and bites down on Virgil’s spine. Virgil becomes limp and falls. He’s only able to use his front two paws, his hind legs are dead weight. Calfus chuckles and says, “I would kill you, but you felt that having the surprise would help. Suffer alone as I have until your last day.” Calfus took lead, and began to guide a group that he didn’t want. His past has seemingly reformed in front of him, all in battle for pack of the Alpha. As a result, of that, the wild things let Max control them without objection and made him king. If the citizens are not trained and disciplined by their leaders, the people will not abide by laws because they are not being punished for their wrongdoings. As king, Max holds a Wild Rumpus, an event where he and his subjects can go wild, and everyone is enjoying the event. He shows his control by being able to stop the Wild Rumpus without consent. Though, during the wild rumpus, Max yells, “Now stop!” after the wild things got too wild and sends the wild things to bed without supper (Sendak). When the Wild Rumpus is at its peak of getting out of hand, Max demonstrates his ability to discipline the Wild Things by sending them to bed and not giving dinner. He is able to break up the Rumpus without objection, which means he can control his subjects. Leaders should be able to scrutinize an out-of-hand situation and resolve it quickly because if they don’t, their country will be in chaos and nothing will be able to be accomplished.
