Call of the wild written by Jack London was set during the Yukon gold rush in the frigid klondike. The reader is introduced to the main character Buck who was taken from his owner Judge Miller who lived in California. The man who took Buck manuel, was the judges gardener. Buck was kidnapped because his breed of dog is used in the Klondike to pull sleds and haul freight. Along Buck's journey to the klondike he meets a mysterious man only know to the reader as “The Man In The Red Sweater.” this man instills discipline by abuse with a club. If buck did not listen he would be beaten. After multiple beatings Buck complied. When they arrive at klondike buck is bought by two men by the name of Francois And Perrault. They purchased Buck to work for their sled dog team. This is where we meet Spitz the leader who buck has an immediate conflict of power with. Then the reader meets Pike who helped buck throughout the story, then Curly,Solec, Dave and Dolly. These 5 dogs all work together to survive pulling the sled but they do not in any means work as a team. After Perrault and Francois use the dog team they are sold off to men named Hal and Charles. These two men work the sled dog team members to the point of death and buck is near death when a man named john thornton comes and offers to buy buck from the man. Here the two men say buck is worthless and decide it would be best to cut their losses. …show more content…
The main theme/interpretation of the book that stands out the most is Survival of The Fittest and The Power Of Natural Instincts. London uses a unique perspective for the reader putting them inside bucks head, letting them hear all of his thoughts and responses to the environment around him
