Camp Berwick
My first year at Camp Berwick was a struggle for me. The Berwick Boys foundation is a camp that helps kids 12-18 grow into responsible adults. Berwick is a camp that helped me grow into a young man. I was 13 years old my first year and was a very hyperactive kid who would get into trouble a lot from being by certain things, and talking back to my counselors. My fifth year at camp Berwick I was a counselor and the most senior counselor, the top dog. I had multiple struggles my first year of camp; it was my first time away from home for a long period of time 6 weeks. My first week of camp, I cried because I missed my parents, eldest brother, and my other Brother who went to the camp and got sent home in the first week. I was shy and didn’t …show more content…
I learned to jump right into a task and be a leader and help kids who struggled like I had. My second year at Berwick I flourished with responsibility and becoming construction crew head, which is uncommon for a second year at Camp Berwick but I knew I had to be a leader and step it up since my crewmates looked up to me. I learned construction and how to use the power tools better and how to properly guide my crewmates on how to safely use the saws when cutting from my mentor Dr.Stewart. My third year was my first full year as construction crew head, I had more crew members to be responsible for had to teach first years again safety and proper use of power tools. Taught leadership skills to the second years so they would work well with the younger crewmates on construction crew. I was later voted on the boy’s council at the end of the summer my biggest triumph in those three years. My fourth year I was a cabin head, construction crew head, and senior counselor I worked with staff to run the camp and figure out the daily activities. My fifth year I set the example, I was looked up to. Younger campers dreamed of my position I was glad that I could impact their life and as the senior counselor it was a lot of responsibility and made me a better leader by having more self-control when others are looking at me as the example. I wanted to show them how to be the best even though I made mistakes and still

It was the Summer of 2010, I had recently discovered a camp online called "Railcamp" after stumbling upon a video about the camp, this particular camp was hosted by the State of West Virginia's Operation Lifesaver Agency. I have always had an interest in trains since I was very young, I lived right beside a Mainline until when I was around 3 years old. One day, I was browsing on the internet and found a YouTube video about Railcamp. This immediately caught my attention. The camp was supposed to last about a week in late June/Early July. This camp would be full of interesting surprises. The drive to the camp was about 5 hours long and approximately 300 miles. The Camp was located in an unincorporated community called "Cabins", in West Virginia.…

For my capstone project I adopted a classroom of a head start preschool program in Chaska where I filled backpacks with school supplies that each child needs for the fall school year. My leadership skills played a significant role when having to contact outside business to ask for donations to receive the schools supplies. In addition, I delivered the backpacks to the classroom where I had the responsibility of leading the…

December 7th, 1941, which is what Franklin D. Roosevelt called “a day which will live in infamy” is the day in which Pearl Harbor was bombed and the United States got involved in World War II. This also caused tremendous fear and distrust towards Japanese ancestors, even if they were American citizens, and led to Executive Order 9066 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942, authorizing the Secretary of War to prescribe certain areas as military zones, resulting in the deportation of Japanese Americans to internment camps, such as Manzanar. Consequently, some Japanese-Americans saw their family structures disintegrate because of their experiences at Camp Manzanar.…

Being in the Drill Team for starters, has brought me places that I’d never thought I’d be- mentally and physically. With the atmosphere created in our drill team, I can feel that with hard work we can accomplish anything. It’s not only marching, it creates a new way of thinking and you develop new organizational skills. Drill Team allows you to work as one in a team with other members and see the results of what coming together can do. Trust is instilled, for you know that without one or two members, your team cannot work as well.…

After finding out I had won the election I knew what really was placed ahead of me now was the ability to become a leader in the community as well as at school. Other people would now look up to me. I would grow and start to transform into the leader I am today by attending Mt. Adams Leadership camp that next summer. There, I found myself reaching out of my comfort zone and developing my leadership skills. Mt. Adams was integral in helping my sophomore year go smoothly. I would continue to go to the campus at Cispus Learning Center for Leadership camp for three years straight. Each year building my skills and digging deeper into my personal belief's about leadership and serving others. My junior year I was ASB Vice President and now going into my senior year I am the ASB President. I have confidence in myself to become a senior leader in my small school and community. As I reflect on my experiences in ASB and leadership, I would never be here at this point without the encouragement of others. My newly developed confidence has bled into my leadership in the classroom, athletic fields and my community. Throughout high school, my life has been consumed by sports. Being a student athlete has made me become the person I am today. Ever since I was sixteen, I have also worked at a daycare in town, TASK. This has showed me how much little kids look up to student athletes. Working at TASK has also showed me how much these little kids want to grow up and be like us student athletes. Without sports and working at the daycare, I would not be the role model I am today. Since working at the daycare, I have realized I want to be the person little girls are talking about when they say, “I want to grow up and be just like her.” Being chosen team captain has made me into the leader I am. I have learned how to push my teammates…
