Unfortunately organizations in today’s dynamic environment have little time for goals and plans to flow down from the top, hence a flatter hierarchy is needed. This will mean that even lower organizational levels can set goals and develop plans. Therefore, managers should teach their employees how to set goals and to plan then trust them to do it.
CASE STUDY
An example of company based on a strong team structure is Wipro Limited. This originally was an anonymous conglomerate selling cooking oil and personal computers, mostly in India. Today, it is a $6 billion-a-year global company with most of its businesses coming from information-technology services. The strength of this Indian multinational company is its structure. There is no line of managerial authority, teams work in the way they think is best and employees are completely involved and empowered. (Robbins, Stephen P.; DeCenzo, David A.; Coulter, Mary;, 2013)
Not only are Wipro’s employees economical, they’re knowledgeable and skilled and they play an important role in the company’s planning.
Since the information services industry is continually changing, employees are taught to analyze situations and to define the scale and scope of a client’s problems in order to offer the best solutions.
It is an approach that positions Wipro for success no matter how the industry
