When the founding fathers drafted the Constitution of the United States of America, the convention became divided over the continuation of slavery within the nation. Northern delegates, who already detested the institution on moral grounds, were further opposed to it due to added concessions to southern states (Document 1). One concession allowed for slaves to be counted as three-fifths of a person for representational purposes, and therefore gave the South an advantage in the House of Representatives, which assigned number of votes based on size of population. From the southern perspective these concession were necessary to preserve an economic system they were completely dependent on. Southern delegates went so far as to concede control on commercial regulation in exchange for the protection of slavery. The threat of southern delegates abandoning the convention forced northerners to compromise on this issue in order to ratify the Constitution. While the delegate’s compromise established initial unity between the North and South, it set out a precedent for sectional concessions, which became increasingly intolerable to the other side. Increased sectional tensions eventually resulted in southern secession.…

The British are becoming a threat to the thirteen colonies and they have to fight against it.…
Because it is certain that wildlife is declining and cats have a significant role as to why this is occurring. (8) Is what makes this argument to be invalid. The author states the decline to be 68% but in context he is blaming the cats. But has written “a variety of factors are to blame”, this doesn’t make sense because he is trying to blame cats for the decline in wildlife but it is really because of the clearing of land. (9) Is also dependent on this because it is farmland animals where the land is being heavily cleared for more urbanization. Yet he is still trying to blame cats for this with (11). The fact presented is not enough in detail to support the claim. It lacks detail as to how many rats and mice do they kill every year. What proportion are chipmunks, squirrels and rabbits killed. Cats are used to control population numbers for rabbits so this makes the fact unreliable. It also lacks the reproduction rates to which these animals replenish their population. Therefore in the context of the argument when trying to blame cats for the decline in wildlife it is invalid and thus a bad…
If the South seceded, the North and South would both be benefited. The North would have changed into a country with social and economic policies similar the ones in Canada or European countries. The South would have half an economy based on slave labor or an economy based on free labor. If Lincoln had let the 11 Southern states away, Southern blacks eventually would have won their freedom. They may have had to switch arms, but only a few could argue.…
Yes, the lower South should be able to secede peacefully. As a Southern Democrat, I believe that it is not only the right of the lower South states to secede, but secession is needed now. This secession is very important to the development of the lower South. The Constitution gives states’ rights, and just because the lower South is not in 100% agreement with the Northern states, that does not mean that our rights can be taken away (page 336 in our book). Now, let’s fast forward to President Taylor’s plan to allow California and New Mexico to choose if they want to be a slave state or a free state (page 635 of our assigned readings).…
Why would the southern states secede but not any other states? There were three main reasons that included issues of slavery, states’ rights, and other grievances like Lincoln’s election. Georgia, Texas, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Virginia were five out of the eleven states that wrote a “Declaration of Causes”, which explained why they seceded. Slavery was one of the more important causes of secession of the southern states. “The South with great unanimity declared her purpose to resist the principle of prohibition to the last extremity” (Council on Foreign Relations, n.d.).…
Thomas Jefferson’s “Declaration of Independence” and Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” are texts that have a common denominator: the pursuit of liberty. Although both documents do not focus their context in the same historical moment, both have greatly influenced the history of the United States. Specifically, Jefferson’s purpose with the “Declaration of Independence” was to denounce the offenses suffered at the hands of Great Britain and to finally declare their absolute independence, sovereignty and liberty. On the other hand, Martin Luther King’s speech, “I Have a Dream” exhorts people to end the discrimination towards Negroes and finally, their freedom.…

When it comes to secession, everybody thinks it's the state's right to secede from a union based on the founding fathers of revolutionary war, but what we should be aware of is how is it going to happen, what could possibly happen after that, and what is the state going to do keep the progress in place. California is an economically stable state. It has what it takes to stand out as a country itself, but it is not a good idea. The issue with today's Constitution is that it does not let states formally and peacefully secede.…
