recorded temperature was -81 degrees Fahrenheit! This differs from my city because it is usually hot and humid here throughout most of the year. Canada is an amazing country! The culture and customs of Canada are also a riveting topic.
Canada is an extremely artistic country. According to the book Countries of the World : Canada, "Canada has a long theater tradition," "Canadians enjoy dancing," and "Music of all types is popular among Canadians." Canadians are mainly Catholic or Protestant, but there is a humongous religious variety, including Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists, and Jews. A lot of Canadian foods are unique as well. They eat some traditional foods such as seafood and maple syrup, but they have other interesting cuisines such as ketchup chips, Canadian bacon, and poutine- fries slathered in gravy and cheese. Canadian cuisine has also been impacted by many other cultures. According to Countries of the World: Canada, "Canadian dishes have since been influenced by Jewish, Italian, Russian, Greek, Italian, [and] Chinese..." Overall, Canada’s culture is extremely
unqiue.
My family is not involved in all of Canadian’s cultural customs, but we do take part in some traditions. I do practice the main religion in Canada (Catholicism), and I participate in it’s holidays such as Christmas and Easter. Also, I am not a huge fan of sports, but the majority of my family watches hockey, a main sport in Canada. According to Countries of the World: Canada, "There is no doubt that if there is a national sporting obsession in Canada, it is with the Canadian invented game of hockey." Lastly, I love to listen to my mom’s story of her time in Canada. My mother was born in Canada and went to the United States when she was adopted by my grandparents. Canada will always have a special place in my heart.
In conclusion, the culture of Canada is a fascinating topic. The history is exciting and the geography is diverse. The cultural customs are similar to the United States but there are also unique traditions in Canada. The cuisine and athletic department are just a few of these differences. Also, my family’s connection with Canada is exciting for me to learn about and explore. Hopefully, one day I will get the chance to experience Canada’s cultural variety. For now, take care- or as they say in French (one of the official languages of Canada), prends soin de toi.
