The Canadian government’s main interest and decisions to tax imported magazines is mostly based on funding; making sure imports are taxed properly. “Money begets power, which begets more money, and more power. Taxes provide a counterbalance, by softening extreme disparities in wealth, power and benefits.” (10 Big Reasons to Feel Good About Taxes, 2017) If the Canadian can produce quality products, in this case engaging writing, interesting topics and appealing visual aids. “Consumer spending is an important economic factor because it usually coincides with the overall consumer confidence in a nation’s economy. High consumer confidence indicators usually relate to higher levels of consumer spending in the economic market. Consumer confidence provides governments and businesses with an analysis on consumer perception.” (Writer, 2010) Consumers purchase products because of it's quality and connectivity.This is why we pay a little extra to purchase quality products from Japanese, American as supposed to cheaply made products from China. “Businesses use consumer spending data in their supply and demand economic calculations. Supply and demand help businesses produce goods or services at the most favorable consumer price points.” (Writer, 2010) By allowing Canadians to vote via their purchasing habits give the local Canadian magazine essential data, they should encourage this practice as it would only benefit the local magazine industry in terms of consumer
