History

The Foreshore highway project started construction of the first phase in the 1970s. By the time the construction phase came to the major crossing over the area now named Foreshore and connect the two ramps to each other, came to a halt regarding a combination of funds and at that time the need for a highway that connects to the N1 wasn’t feasible to the low demand of traffic in the 1970’s. In 1983, the City of Cape Town commissioned an independent review of the CBD road system, including the Foreshore Freeway and its proposed Buitengracht connections. This can bring lower income groups closer to their work environment and be more accessible to other job opportunities. By developing some of the space for market infrastructure can show the people the vibe of a well-designed thought that would show development plans of the future. This would also create opportunities for the sustained economic development of the area with investment potential that make this area a business hub.

Certain individual erven that surround the Foreshore Precinct are subject to other restrictions/conditions stemming from rezoning and Site Development Plans. The erven that sit within the V&A Waterfront see development guided by the Heads of Agreement and their Precinct and Site Development Plans. Some of the areas in Foreshore are not part of the City of Cape Town. Transnet owns the majority of the grounds that shows interest in development. Agreements and disputes over the grounds needs to be discussed and agreed before the development can begin.

By doing so will open up more space for development of residence in the area, as well as the tourism sector for accommodation in the city. This project will enhance the safety and security of the developed areas within the boundaries of inner Cape town and possibly influence the whole Cape town in general.

By implementing the core values of the social development will show the area of cape town the level of commitment to the citizens. The economic and environmental development will play a role the plan to illustrate the values that the plan possesses. The TOD plan will be implemented and their aim is to be developed to be a inclusive and integrated plan that will make the difference.
