Cardiac Arrest The circulatory system along with the heart make are what make up the cardiovascular system. The heart works as a pump that pushes blood to tissues, organs and cells in your body. The blood can be pumped throughout the body through a series of arteries, veins and capillaries. Arteries and capillaries send blood from the heart to all areas of the body, while veins help bring that blood back to the heart. Arteries carries oxygenated blood away from the heart, and veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. This process is called circulation. The roles are revered in pulmonary circulation.
