Case 52: the Safety Training Program
Case 52: The Safety Training Program

Question 1. Evaluate the company’s on-the-job training program. Should it be changed? Houghton Refrigeration Company safety training program is very poorly organized. I disagree with their current process of hiring and training new employees. Houghton Refrigeration should not expect newly hired employees to learn a job within ten minutes and perform the job correctly without any prior knowledge of the product they are about to work on. Currently Houghton does not offer orientations. Houghton should offer newly hired employees an orientation where they are given a brief history of the company and the products it offers customers. Houghton should also offer training sessions during the first week of employment so employees can learn the company’s processes. Training sessions should be conducted by a member of management who is engaging and familiar with the products, safety regulations, and OSHA requirements. Training sessions should include safety material -handling techniques, safety rules and regulations, lifting procedures, and proper ways of installing products. This will allow employees to familiarize themselves with safe ways to handle the products they will be working with and give them an opportunity to ask questions. Once the employees show up for their first day they should be assigned to an experienced employee for at least two days to show and monitor the new employees work and assist if needed. The experienced employee could provide the new hire with helpful information or techniques as to how to complete the job effectively and without accidents.
Given the information above I do believe Houghton Refrigeration Companies on -the-job training program should be changed to reflect the suggestions given.

Question 2. Should the company install an employee orientation program for new factory workers, or is one not necessary? Houghton Refrigeration should install an employee

I do believe that the company will have to modify its train the trainer approach slightly. I think they will need to have employees that are in charge of training as their job. Instead of having employees (managers) that train new employees, they will have people specifically in charge of training new employees as well as designing the training program to deliver to them. These people that are in charge of training should be employees that used to be managers with the organization or subject matter experts. This will allow for the train the trainer method to occur as well as not taking time away from managers to fully train employees.…

To begin, Butts et al inform psychologists throughout his journal that there is a need for more gun violence control which protects social norms. Members of Cure Violence explain in detail the studies they have done to change gun violence opinions. Coming from an expert’s perspective, Butts states, “It considers gun violence to be analogous to a communicable disease that passes from person to person when left untreated.” High education can cure this problem, thus eliminating deaths caused by guns. Once people understand why it is important to pay attention to the issue of gun violence, the community can work harder to monitor and increase firearm education. The world will be safer once guns are kept from those who…
