Doug depression is most likely to have been triggered by the stressful life he is leading (Palazidou, 2012). Stress has been identified to be a major trigger of depression for individuals. Doug is clearly in a stressful situation since he does not have a decent place, does not have a steady source of income and can not afford to adequately address his diabetes problem. The depression that Mr. Doug suffer from is a major contributor to his current predicament and it is origins can be trailed back to his misguided decision of leaving home when he had no proper place to go to.
Another factor that is relevant to this particular context is the apparent lack of attachment and proper communication between Doug and the people with who he share a house with. Even he thought he has only moved to the share house recently, the communication with his housemate was very weak since they do not even noticed that he was away during his treatment. This is not an ideal environment for a person suffering from diabetes to live with.
