Abstract
The object of this paper is to describe the different changes that can be made in order to lower the cost of healthcare among patients with autism. Many people as well as different agencies react to this disorder in many different ways. This report will provide detail about the “Question of Who,” which relates to the agencies who pay for the treatment as well as the families. The reader should expect to learn what autism is about, how a person with autism is affected on a day to day basis, and how it affects their everyday life as well as the people around them. There are a vast amount of theories that have been suspected to cause autism, for example many parents believe that one cause of this disorder comes from exposure to the small amounts of mercury that vaccines carry. But in turn, it is crucial to think about the consequences that an individual may suffer if the vaccines are not provided. In the world today there is much active research being done in this field in order to find out the main causes of autism. This type of insurance is run by the state, which in turn means the state decides the requirements needed in order to be eligible. For those families who have higher income there is the Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP). This particular type of insurance is mostly adopted in situations where only one member of a family is working, which makes them not capable of meeting the criteria for Medicaid. In some cases families have to pay for the costs depending on their income. Some of the expenditures covered by Medicaid and CHIP are physician’s visits, medications and hospitalizations. Other types of expenditures such as check ups, immunizations, visions and hearing visits can be covered by the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) but states are not required to offer this types of expenditures.
