Case Study Of Middle Tennessee State University Speech-Language Hearing Clinic
Carl continued speech therapy at Middle Tennessee State University Speech-Language Hearing Clinic. He does not receive any other therapeutic services or take any medications regularly. He currently attends Middle Tennessee Christian Academy and is in the tenth grade. Carl is very intelligent for his age.

SEMESTER OBJECTIVES AND PROGRESS
Articulation:
1. The client will produce  in all word positions within conversation given minimal cues at 90% accuracy. Status: Not Achieved, 78% The clinician used a variety of activities to target this goal. Clinician made activities such as crafting a Harry Potter sorting hat were particularly enjoyed by the client. Accuracy for this objective steadily increased weekly, with the exception of one week. The client responded to verbal cues, placement cues, tactile cues, and modeling. Additionally, instructing the client to touch the top of his lip while making the  sound was successful. Reading exerts followed by comprehension questions were effective when paired with reinforcement

The client enjoyed these functional games. The clinician and client periodically reviewed target words throughout the activity. The clinician reduced complexity of this goal to the syllable level to elicit the correct response. The clinician utilized the principle of co-articulation to elicit the target sound (i.e. “her-red”). The clinician explicitly explained what co-articulation was to the client. The client produced the sound correctly after multiple attempts utilizing this method. The client responded well to repetition cues, placement cues, and modeling cues. The clinician also increased the clients’ awareness of the difference by watching multiple YouTube videos that modeled the difference. The clinician would pause and ask the client if he heard the difference, and then practice using the same word modeled in the

    Winter pediatric therapy clinic is a great clinic for children who are in need of pediatric rehabilitation services. The three services provided by this clinic are speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. At this facility, I had the opportunity to observe clients who had language and articulation disorders. The first client I observed was a 20 year old adolescent with Autism who was nonverbal. To facilitate his way of communication, he used the Saltillo Novachat 8 (SN8), which is a communication system that offers Chat software on an Android platform. The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for this client used common sentences provided by his mother to help him communicate better at home. The SLP said these sentences aloud and the client was instructed to use the device to repeat those sentences. The second client I had the opportunity to observe is a 4 year old boy who had an articulation disorder. For this client the SLP used drill play to teach him new ways of producing the /b/ sound. The third client was a 4 year old boy with Autism and he was nonverbal. The therapy session for this client consisted of playing different games of his interest to help improve his communication skills.     I thought it was interesting to take to common elicitation methods and compare them. The study had great consistency. All participants were in the same age range, spoke English, had no prior experience with Speech Therapy, normal hearing, no behavioral problems, and had typical expressive and receptive language skills. The authors understood that other variables could possibly skew their results. When obtaining samples, the authors chose 162 words from both samples.
