Outline of Task
The target audience for my magazine is teenage girls who are interested in fashion and the latest trends. I went for this target audience because the main focus of my productions is fashion and most teenage girls are interested in fashion, making them easier to target. The category of audience for my products would be a mixture of C2, D and E. This is because it is a gossip and fashion magazine so stereotypically these groups would be interested in gossip and fashion. The codes and conventions used in my products are mainly aimed at women to make them buy the magazine, for example the colours are feminine.

90% of the media products I analysed used the colour pink as either the main colour used or incorporated it into the clothing of the model. This strongly represents the target audience for female teenage magazines by stereotyping girls’ favourite colour as pink.
Another similarity I noticed was 90% of the media products all used models with direct mode of address. All the models were looking directly into the camera attracting the audiences’ attention. Therefore I took this into consideration and used direct mode of address in all of my media products.
One difference I noticed was the media products with a famous celebrity being the optical weight of the cover, the main headline was their name. For example, Notions optical weight of the cover is Miley Cyrus. It then has ‘MILEY’ across the bottom of the cover. This attracts the audience to the celebrity themself and distracts the audience’s attention from the magazine. Also, the pose Miley is doing on this cover is very dominant and done with attitude as her hand is on her hip. Her legs are bare, she is winking whilst having direct mode of address to the camera and also she has her mouth open with bright red lipstick on. This could be seen as pathetic fallacy. Also, this could be evidence of Laura Mulvey’s theory ‘the male gaze’ of how men look at women, how women look at themselves and how women look at other …show more content…
For example, ‘Fashion’ magazine uses a non-celebrity model for the cover and has the main headline in big, bold, pink writing. This also backs up the stereotyping of pink being a female colour. Because the main text on the cover is ‘spring fever’ it tells the audience straight away what addition the magazine is and what is likely to be inside. It also adds anchorage to the picture and explains why she is wearing autumn colours, a scarf and is pale
