What taxi drivers argue, briefly, is that Uber and the drivers don’t pay taxes as they pay, being an irregular service, and ultimately, because of the prices it practices, Uber would be making taxi drivers lose their jobs. They say Uber doesn’t respect the labor laws and tax laws. They add Uber would be, by having as drivers individuals who not necessarily have this occupation as their main one, killing the real jobs – from the taxi drivers.

From the perspective of the customers, people who are more legalists still defend the taxi drivers. They say these workers are paying high taxes to the government, following a strict legislation, paid high prices for their licenses and have families to feed. Some also argue the services provided by Uber, since they are not regulated by the state, are completely illegal and people taking Uber are committing a crime. If we analyze Uber since the beginning, it is interesting to note how the app progressed. When it was launched, it wasn’t actually competing directly with the taxis, especially because of the prices, that were higher than the ones from the cabs. With time, the increase of numbers of new drivers, the costs fell and it started really competing with the taxis, specially the categories UberPop – created and banned in France-, and UberX.
We also have to consider the government perspective. If, from one side, some argue Uber employs more than 20.000 people in France today, and sending this people back to unemployment is a cost way too high to pay to preserve the monopoly of the taxi, and that there is enough demand for both services, the socialists argue the real jobs must me preserved, that the Uber drivers don’t have enough protection from the state since they are freelancers, and that taxis are the one to be preserved and
