Casey At Bat Analysis
In the poem “Casey at Bat” and story “David and Goliath,” a comparison of David and Casey shows differences and similarities. For instance, one similarity of David and Casey is that they both treat their work with full commitment, and are proud of what they do. According to the texts, “There was pride in Casey’s bearing and a smile on Casey’s face” while “ David took care of his father’s sheep, and he went back and forth between Bethlehem and Saul’s camp.” As these two quotes explain one of the similarities by showing that Casey was proud of what he does and would attempt to look like the best in order to be the best. These quotes also prove that David enjoys making his father proud which results in him putting his full effort into his chores …show more content…
For example, Casey and David are different because Casey was loved by many while David was only known for his tasks in his small village. According to the texts, “We’d put up even money, now, with Casey at the bat” while, “David was Jesse’s youngest son. He took care of his father’s sheep, and he went back and forth between Bethlehem and Saul’s camp.” The two pieces of evidence determine that Casey was very popular with the people and fans because he was known as a great baseball player. On the other hand, David was known as a weakling in his little village because he never did anything exciting, he just did the town’s repetitive chores. Another difference between Casey and David is that Casey was self-centered and David was a man of the people. The texts state that, “And Casey stood a–watching it in haughty grandeur there” while “You’ve come out to fight me with a sword and a spear and a dagger. But I’ve come out to fight you in the name of the Lord All-Powerful. He is the God of Israel’s army, and you have insulted him too!” As these two quotes prove one of the many differences of Casey and David by showing that Casey is full of himself and thinks that he is the only one that can win the game. According to the Webster's Dictionary, “haughty- having or showing an attitude of superiority and contempt for people or things perceived to be inferior.” This piece of evidence also proves that David believes that

A.) As Casey stepped up to the plate there was pride in his eyes and a smile on his face. B.) I would say Casey is cocky. He steps up to the plate knowing he is going to get a hit. He has a sneer in his lip when he looks at the pitcher and remains calm the whole time he is at bat. My opinion overall of Casey is that he is a player who thinks he is better than he is.…

Samson and Casey were two foolish men who made bad decisions. God gave Samson strength beyond human ability as long as he followed Gods rules, but Samson could not put aside his arrogance and lust in order to keep his gift. So God took his gift away and in the end Samson paid with his life. Casey was talented at baseball but his pride led him to miss a great opportunity which made people revaluate how great he actually was. They were both over confident which lead to their downfall. Solomon warned men about this very sin because he knew what damage it could do. “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18) The most disappointing component of both their actions was the fact that they had others depending on them. If their pride had not gotten in the way then they could have accomplished something great. They let people down and by their actions, displayed cowardice.…

The poem “David”, written by Earle Birney is a very emotional and allure piece. The major theme that pursues throughout the whole poem is maturity. Which includes the beginning of such, and all the obstacles that must be overcome. The tone is a very cynical one, especially when David asks Bob to push him off the cliff. Birney also uses figurative language and poetic devices to create an element of tension, complexity and emotion.…

For example, there is the obvious difference of Brian being a male, and living in the 21st century in Orange County, USA, as opposed to Esther being female and living before Christ in Susa, Persia. The more subtle differences include; Brian advertises his intentions, by starting a Kickstarter, asking for $20,000, finally earning $65,000 (pg. 72). Esther, on the other hand, did not advertise her plans. In fact, she had to keep them secret under pain of death. They also faced very different issues and challenges. Brian had to break away from his habits of porn and sin. He verbally abused his girlfriend and cheated on her. Esther had to face the threats of being a Jew. Her rights were abused when she was threatened with persecution. Brian brought himself into the situation, raising the money, organising the crew and going to Korea. Claude Vignon’s David with the Head of Goliath, is quite obviously focused on a recognizable subject matter being the Old Testament story that we all know so well. What Vignon brings to the popular scene to make it his own is the emotion surrounding the event. As previously mention its is that of a saddened child unsure of what he’s done, rather than that of a soldier victorious in battle; an emotion not previously portrayed in a work of…

To continue, David wanted to love women, but he is sexually attracted to men. David noticed a sailor coming across the boulevard when he thought to himself, “he seemed— somehow— younger than I had ever been, and blonder and more beautiful, and he wore his masculinity as unequivocally as he wore his skin” (Baldwin 91). It is clear that David is attracted to him, but at the same time he is spiteful that he is not gay.…

Adam and Eve: an Epic Poem

When GOD was in the process of creating the first two human beings, one would predict that they would be very similar. From the physical outlook, differences between Adam and Eve could be seen easily, simply because of the physical characteristics that differentiate man and woman. But if the human eye were to somehow dig deeper beneath the skin of Adam and Eve, one could see how the two were fairly different. One way of distinguishing one from the other and contrasting the two would be the strengths that each of them possessed. With the strengths, Milton not only showed the differences through the personality, but through the actions as well. The stronger of the two or the character that possessed the most strength was Adam. Even though this choice is very much debatable, Milton backs this up with examples within Paradise Lost.…

Throughout his struggle, David did many things to try and help his survival on a day to day basis. In David's worst of times he would pass the time by fantasizing to help ease his mind and or to block out whatever horrific game his mother wanted to play. " I fantasized i was a prince or a comic book hero", David often would imagine. When David's hunger pains became more than he could bare he resulted to eating "scraps" from the garbage, dog food bowls, and began stealing from grocery stores, school lunches and food from other children's lunch boxes at school. David goes on to say "During the lunch recesses, I stuffed the sandwiches down my throat." David also clung to his father for protection, he believed that his father was his hero, like any small boy; "Father was my only hope, and he did all he could to sneak me scraps of food." In the beginning his father seemed to try and help out but to my surprise David's father's help was short lived, ultimately resulting in more misery from his mother.…
