Casey At The Bat Poem Analysis

If you compare the two poems “Casey at the Bat” and “David and the Goliath”, you will find some differences and similarities between the two. The first similarity between the two is that they both had faith that they would achieve their goal. In verse 36 David states “Sir, I have killed lions and bears that way, and I can kill this worthless Philistine”. This shows that David has killed many animals and it will not be different from killing the giant. In line 30 of Casey at the Bat it states “And Casey stood a–watching it in haughty grandeur there”. This means that Casey looked at the pitcher like he was too good for the pitch. The next similarity is that they had to face big problems. In Casey at the Bat on line 43 and 44 it says “They saw
The last similarity is that they both had to do something bold in front of a huge crowd. In Casey at the Bat it says “Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell.” This shows that Casey has one chance to hit the ball in front of 5,000 people. In David and the Goliath it says “ He’s making fun of the army of the living God!”This shows that David has to kill the Goliath in front of the army of the living God and the Philistine army. Now I’m going to talk about the differences between the two. The first difference is that Casey has a good reputation, and the people in David and the Goliath don’t like David. In David and the Goliath David’s brother says to him, “What are you doing here, anyway? Who’s taking care of that little flock of sheep out in the desert? You spoiled brat! You came here just to watch the fighting, didn’t you?”. This shows that David’s brother doesn’t like him and looks down to him. In Casey at the Bat it states, “And it's likely they’d a–killed him had not Casey raised his hand.” This shows that Casey is looked up to by the spectators
