When Aigul Kumanaliyeva and her family went to South Korea in 2016, they went to Seoul’s famous cat cafes and really liked the idea. It spurred her to open the Miki Piki Cat Café in Astana, Kazakhstan, The Astana Times reported.
In July 2017, at EXPO 2017, she opened the city’s first cat café which she named after their 10th cat. Before she opened the café, Aigul purchased nine kittens of different breeds. Since then, her shop has acquired more kittens and they now have 15 cats.

Sip & Purr Cat Café will offer two rooms. One will be a cat-free café, and the other will be an interactive cat lounge where guests can spend time with eight to 12 cats which Katy adopted from the Lakeland Animal Shelter in Delavan.
Because Lakeland has been operating under an open colony concept for 15 years, the cats from the shelter are socialized since it has regular interaction with other felines and prospective adoptive families. The café will offer cats from the shelter for adoption which are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and ready for new owners.
The café will combine modern accents with exposed brick walls and a variety of classic décor to make it warm and welcoming. By combining the old with the new, Katy wants to capture some of the spirits of the old East Side and mix it with modern, industrial elements which she noticed at other coffee shops and cafes throughout her travels.
