Catalase is to prevent the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in the body by breaking it down into water and oxygen gas. Hydrogen peroxide is a toxic by-product of metabolic reactions. If hydrogen peroxide accumulates in the cells, it disturbs the function of cells so it is important to get rid of this toxic chemical from the body.
One way to avoid the accumulation of H2O2 is to convert it water and oxygen which can be used in other reactions in the cell. In the …show more content…
One of the factors that affect the rate of reaction of hydrogen peroxide by catalase is the pH. Enzymes needs a very specific range of pH in order to function properly, so does catalase. In this experiment the reaction of H2O2 will be seen the presence of catalase at different pH level to see how pH affects the rate of reaction of H2O2. As the breakdown of H2O2 produces oxygen gas so the Biology Gas Pressure Sensor will be used to detect the pressure of oxygen generated in the reaction and the logger pro will be used to track the oxygen pressure in order to measure the rate of reaction. I have chosen to use this process to measure the rate of reaction of H2O2 because it is easy to handle and closed system for reaction can be made easily in a test tube.
My uncle is working in a food industry in Pakistan called Mayfair. He uses to tell to about how they control varies factors to increase the productivity of different foods which made me very interested in
