-Chapter 1
M: “It’s important to say goodbye.”
CD: Holden is leaving Pency and remembers chucking a football around with some guys. The memory makes him feel better about being kicked out.

M: “Life is a game.”
CD: Holden is talking to Spencer, who tells him that life is a game and that you need to follow the rules in order to succeed in it.

CD: When Holden is speaking with Ackley, he mentions that although Stradlater is cocky and conceited, he is very generous.

CD: Holden starts sort of crying when he took his last look down the corridor because he is going to miss Pency even though he hates the place.

M: “Mothers are blinded from love to their child’s faults.”
CD: Holden talks to Mrs. Morrow who seemed like she might not know how terrible of a person her son was,

CD: Holden saw Lillian Simmons and her date at Ernie’s. Holden tells her date that he was glad to have met him when in reality he hated meeting him.

M: “If you’re depressed, then you won’t be able to think clearly.”
CD: Holden says that he requested the prostitute because he was feeling very depressed and wasn’t thinking.

M: “The movies can ruin your mind.”
CD: Holden is implying that the movies gave him the idea of how he would kill Maurice if he could.
-Chapter 15
M: “Money makes people sad.”
CD: Holden felt sad about the amount of money he gave to the nuns for their collection.

M: “Certain things should never change.”
CD: Holden talks about how Phoebe would always see the same things that he has seen in the museum. These things will always be the same but every time she would see them she would be
