ABSTRACT
This paper will explain the cause and effect on cheating while taking an exam. College students believe professors ignore the fact that students cheat, but in fact they do. There have been many tests on how many people do in-fact cheat while taking an exam and also before they even get to college.
Cause and Effect of Cheating on College Exams In college many students are to partake in an exam. Statistics show that students who are in a higher educated class may cheat on an exam. For example, students who are in business have a higher percentage of cheating than people who are in an engineering class. McCabe had collected data saying that “from 1,946 undergraduates at 16 highly institutions in 1995-1996, including questions about engagement during college in five different cheating behaviors”. An example of one of the behaviors a person might do to cheat is doing work with a classmate when the teacher has instructed to do an individual work. When it comes to cheating there are serious consequences every student should think about before doing it. Academic honesty is very important when attending college and especially when taking an exam. When a student cheats he or she is disobeying the teachers. Using other peoples work as your own is cheating and also called plagiarizing. It is also not acceptable in any way shape or form. When a teacher assigns an assignment to the students as an individual project, the students must work alone. When a student’s works on an assignment and gets help from another student it wouldn’t be far to those who aren’t getting any help.
Academic Dishonesty In any school especially college, it is very important that every student is honest. Dishonesty comes from cheating on a test. A survey was conducted by Josephson Institute of Ethics and this survey “found out that 74% of the 1,200 high school students polled had cheated on a test at least once in the past year”.
