After World War 1, America was in a state of recovery, both economically and politically. To try to “fix” the new obstacles in America’s way, President’s such as Wilson, Harding, and Hoover all put in new policies, but many backfired. As a result, citizens were confused and felt no hope for their nation and government. The drive for normalcy, social tensions, and occupational divide manipulated as well as created this huge increase in conservative policies in the 1920’s. With these policies, there was an effort being put in to furthermore help, protect, and please the people of America.

Factors such as urban culture, women’s rights, and immigration occurred, making many feel uneasy about this new change to the American population. The reaction to urban cultures can be notice here, “However, Northern cities in general had not welcomed the massive influx of African Americans. Tensions had escalated in the years prior to 1920, culminating, in the summer of 1919, in approximately 25 urban race riots” (American History Textbook pg. 453). These urban riots were a result of a huge event known as the Great Migration. The Great Migration was when thousands of African-Americans moved to the North to seek employment. The double standard was “a set of principles granting greater sexual freedom to men than to women—required women to observe stricter standards of behavior than men did” (American History Textbook pg.441). Out of hatred for the Double standards objectifying nature, this drove Women to fight for their rights even harder. The idea all women could do is cook, take care of children, and clean is ridiculous. The early 1930’s brought millions of women finally getting wages but were still discriminated by Men in the workplace. The discrimination stemmed from “ Fearing competition for jobs, men argued that women were just temporary workers whose real job was at home” (American History Textbook pg.442). Events like these was just the start for Female Discrimination. In the 21st Century,The wage gap, in the year 2014, “ the average was 79 cents for every dollar earned by men. The same study reports that for African-American and Hispanic women the gender pay gap is even wider” (Heather). This shows that discrimination towards Women has not improved, especially women of color. Depression is prominent in Women who have these lower-wages and bring down a women’s confidence. Today, because of the huge gap, do not feel comfortable and not working with the same determination as one
