Alliances were being formed, Germany with Russia, Austria with Germany, Russia with Serbia, everything was building up and it was about to explode. When Franz Ferdinand was assassinated it was the last straw. The Austrian-Hungarian empire took advantage of this horrible event to go to war. They blamed the assassination on the Serbs. They made a big list of demands that they couldn’t comply, to have an excuse to go to war. The Serbs were backed up by Russia; this made the tensions even worse. At the same time this was happening, the German prime minister Otto Bon Bismarck was fired by the Kaiser Wilhelm. Kaiser Wilhelm didn’t know what he was doing and getting into when he had undone the alliance with Russia. Russia was furious, so to get back at Germany, they went with France. The powers were divided; Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy, against Russia, France, and Great Britain. Germany was the country with the most repercussions from the world war, and this caused for the German people to hold resentment. Hitler took advantage of this, and this helped to increase the power of the Nazi party. Hitler went for the presidential election of 1932 and loose, then he achieved his goals when he was appointed chancellor on 30 January 1933. Hitler slowly rose to power, until he was the head of state and nobody could do anything about all the power he had.
