and Italy remained neutral. Austria and Hungary were going to dominate Serbia but when Russia sided with them their army swelled in ranks.
Germany was bound by treaty to Austria and Hungary. If Germany hadn’t had that treaty I don’t think they would’ve fought against Russia, but rather would have sided with them. If Germany became allies Austria and Hungary but was not bound by treaty, they would be called the laughing stock of WWI. Germany only signed that treaty because the Germans thought they didn’t have enough power to stop and invasion from Russia or France. If they hadn’t signed that treaty, Russia would’ve attacked Austria and Hungary and probably would have won. Then Serbia and Russia would’ve attacked Germany and received more help from France and eventually, Germany would’ve lost horribly. Germany called for a cease fire due to troubles with their leadership, but Austria and Hungary kept battling. They didn’t want their new leader to deal with a world war so they called the cease fire. Germany fear that if their new leader became overwhelmed with the war then he might resign and they would have to search for a new leader. The outcome of the war would not have been different if Germany kept battling or not because if Germany continued fighting, they still would have lost, just with more casualties. Serbia was powerful because they had Russia and France supporting them, giving them an advantage in the war. In conclusion, World War I was not Germanys fault because Austria and Hungary made France, Serbia, and Russia mad.
Germany just happened to be bound by treaty to Austria and Hungary, and Germany even called for a cease fire when Austria and Hungary kept fighting. Woodrow Wilson once said "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the
nations…"
