Background
GlobalTech is a change management theory based case study in the simulation format provided by Experience Point. GlobalTech, founded by Maurice Gagnon in 1975, was started in response to the growing demand in the high-tech electronic industry. Its quality-oriented specialization in manufacturing military components had been highly recognized and supported by the steady growth of human resources and a significant pool of expertise such as R&D department. The development of the GPS technology during 1980s, thus, had created valuable opportunities that secured key revenues and a lead positioning in the military field. However, the “New World Order” has gradually shifted the technology demand from the military base to a commercial base, which evolved into brand new customer needs and, hence, a different business model. In addition, the growing conflict of interests among the internal departments, such as R&D, marketing and the union body, has contributed to the plunge in business performance. In view of the current situation, a change-based strategic plan has been executed in the following with in-depth analysis.
Understanding the need for change
In order to achieve a changing management success, identifying the core problem of GloalTech is crucial. After examining the background information about GlobalTech, it can be noticed that the fundamental problem of this company is lacking the integration between departments. The two main departments, R&D and marketing, do not trust each other and thus it is hard for a company to work well. Interviewing its frontline employees in the early stage can also give a better understanding of hidden beneath symptoms of GlobalTech. The interview shows that most employees are faithful to this company and their leaders; however, the employees in R&D department does not seem to fully support Scott Bell.
