Cda Competency Goal 4
Competency Goal Four: To establish positive and productive relationships with families. As an early childhood educator, I have to maintain a positive and productive relationship with the families that come into my preschool. Parents entrust me with their children all day and, I make the parents and families feel as much a part of our classroom and a part of their child’s development. To create this relationship, I work to build an open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each of the children’s family. I make sure to let my families know about my open door policy where they can come into the classroom and stay for a short period of time. A great way to get families involved is to have a volunteer sign up for each of our event at school. I find this is a great way to get my parents involved in the school to help out. I send out newsletter every month to talk about what we will be talking about that month and any events that will be happening in the school. I give out a weekly sheet about the theme and things their children will be learning about in the classroom. I also use these sheets to ask for materials for the classroom to help create snack, art or to get new materials to use in the classroom. Every day I send home a daily sheet to talk about the child’s day and what they are doing in the classroom. I am sure to write the positive achievements of the children in the classroom. I find that best way to keep an open communication with my parents is to check in with them and talk to them when they need someone to talk to about ideas, issue or just to vent about what their children are doing. I listen to what they have to tell me and do my best to answer their questions and concerns they many have about their children and their development. If I am not able to at that time, I may ask them to speak with my director or to try and find the answer through research. I build my relationship with them as a professional by being there for them and having

Based on my knowledge of child development I use the observations of the children to identify any child who may need extra support or referral. I also use obervations to plan activities based on the children interests because I know children learn best when they are enjoying the activity. I offer a variety of activities that promote the advancement of the physical and intellectual competence of the children in my care. Children are encouraged to participate in daily large motor activities to enhance physical development. I do this by being very enthusiastic and even joining in with the children at play. Outside we play tag, ball, hopscotch, and other made up games. Inside we play parachute, and beanbag toss. I also communicate with the children and their parents about the importance of being physically active. In class we have discussions, and I send newsletters home to parents with ideas for activities. Children in my classroom get plenty of time for large motor activities and know why they are important to their health.…

And what kind of services (if any) does your child receive?” This question and answer sheet starts and builds the line of communication with parents.…

Questions are encouraged from parents and guardians and answered the same day or as quickly as…

For the relationship between the families and childcare worker, we need to share information in a clear, and respectful, and helpful way. Most parents want to know how things are going for their child. They will look for us for that information.
