There are two major shifts that have transformed Canadian organizations. First, computerization has changed the way we work, play, and learn. Access to information has enabled organizations to process information in a more timely manner; large volumes of data can be processed at a great speed. Second, automation, or the automatic control of processes or systems by mechanical or electronic devices, has eliminated routine jobs. This has created a need for highly skilled programmers. The push for speed, flexibility, better customer service, increased productivity, and higher standards are just a few of the reasons why Canadian organizations are choosing to automate numerous activities.
Furthermore, a number of demographics trends place challenges on Canadian organizations in terms of human resources management. With greater access to information comes the need to effectively and efficiently share this data. This is where the creation of an organization-wide Intranet will come into play. Private information networks, such as an Intranet, can help increase the speed of decision-making and the sharing of knowledge among employees. It is a fact that many jobs are being taking over by robots. Automation, to be a competitive advantage, needs to integrate new and existing technologies. As the director of human resources, it is most likely that I will have to deal with lost jobs due to automation. This is where I would need to implement an outplacement strategy and help employees find employment
