John F. Kennedy once said,¨ The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.” If it came to notice that the rights of every man are being tested, not just by the law, but society, there could be positive steps taken to protect basic human rights, thus resulting in desirable conditions to defend the rights of everyone. Harper Lee contexts a situation with Tom Robinson while his rights are being challenged, "The one place where a man ought to get a square deal is in a courtroom, be he any color of the rainbow, but people have a way of carrying their resentments right into a jury box" (Lee 38). It is acknowledged that the law isn't a pure realm free of the prejudices that plague everyday life—it's subject to the same problems as society at large. The law is not necessarily perfect, but it is suppose to protect our rights as citizens, which it fails to do sometimes, giving people a lead to become worried about how the system will protect them. Similarly, the lgbtq community is being criticized for who they want to be or who they love.
