For many years, a number of white people believed that persons of color could be treated as slaves. In the case that an African person was not a slave, they were most likely treated as if they were less than a human being. As people look back on history and remember the great leaders of the past, specific names such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson come to mind. Washington and Jefferson had great qualities and were great leaders, but they did have negative attributes to them. Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the United States.
