The movie is written by Gary Ross and has been released in 1998. The story is about two teenagers who, despite the fact that they are brothers and sisters, are really different from each other. David is the introvert and the studious kind of teenager. On the other hand, Jennifer spends more time partying, having fun and chasing boys. Indeed, colors, rain and fire began to appear in the city and books started to be filled with words and unknown stories for the citizen. But what really initiated these changes? The first change in the city was the appearance of the red color. As we all know, red means passion and sensuality. After that, people started to kiss and make love as if it was a new discovery. They became more open-minded and curious about the unknown. Also, the fire appeared when Belty felt an extreme feeling which turned herself in color as well. Overall, I think these changes started with the appearance of consciousness in the citizen of Pleasantville. People began to be aware of their emotions, they started making their own choices and pursuing what they wanted in life.
The movie criticize the lack of diversity in Pleasantville, nothing has changed over the years; everything is just a routine. Also, the movie demonstrates the ignorance that had the citizen of Pleasantville. They don’t have the ability of reflection before doing something and they don’t recognize what is good and bad.
