They are often called “declarative” memories because we can recollect & talk about them. The last category is Procedural Memories which is how to do things and memories established through conditioning) “non-declarative” – can’t consciously recollect and talk about the changes that went on in our body. Memory also has areas in the brain that included the Hippocampus which allows the transferring episodic & semantic memories into long term memories. Cerebral cortex is the short term memory and also is the final storage place for visual, auditory, tactile, verbal memories. Amygdala is the emotional aspects of memory and where emotional memories are hormonally enhanced. Cerebellum has the non-declarative memories along with the procedural memories and conditioning …show more content…
I am able to recall what my first and second day care decorations where. I can recall where my cart for nap time laid and the entire lay out of both centers. I am able to recall what songs were popular in 1984 and the death of my maternal uncle. My mother asked me about him and if I remembered him. I was able to describe every detail about my uncle as well as the way my father walked in to our house and announced his death. I expressed the location I was in in the house and what I was eating. My mother adores the way I am able to recall just about every detail of my childhood up until my twenties. My short term memory is the worst of all the memories that I attempt to use through out the day and week. I find myself constantly writing things down on sticky notes or on calendars. I also have noticed that I have to repeat what I need to remember several times in my head and hope that I can recall that information when needed. I am constantly rehearsing the things that I need to remember but it doesn’t help all the time. I find myself remembering only a few things and according to the experts I should be able to recall or store up to seven or more
