Characterization Of Allison In The Breakfast Club

The film we watched in class was The Breakfast Club. I had heard of this movie and seen some parts of it before, but never really sat and watched the movie, so it was a pleasure to observe and analyze the characters and how they developed. I chose to do the characterization of Allison, whose labeled as weird and different. Allison was a fascinating character to watch develop seeing that there are a lot of hidden things about her and her personality in the beginning of the movie. I found that she was actually quite unique and had some interesting things to say. I do not believe that I directly relate to this character as she was just a bit more isolated and antisocial, but I recognize the personality. The characters all felt like they were an exaggeration of social groups, meant to show the contrast between people and personalities. This contrast is very familiar not just within the movie or our own high school, but in life. People group themselves with whoever seems most familiar since familiarity is safe. This is part of the reason Allison stood out to me, she was one of those people who kept to themselves so they were not forced out of their comfort zone; a trait that I can directly relate to.
It was different to see that she could come from that place of isolation to socialize with her peers. It started with simply following them rather than sitting alone in a classroom, and led to full on conversations with other characters. I liked that she was able to be so forward when she did decide to speak to the others. She showed a lot of herself by sharing personal things, and released the fact that she was a compulsive liar. In my opinion, she knew this lying was a problem and that was part of the reason she was reluctant to speak to her fellow
