There are many different types of soda with different color. Is soda really made of natural color from fruit? Is that safe to drink? Will that kill you? So there is science behind this. The colors of the soda is made of pigments. The fruit color will make the color of the soda brighter. Column Chromatography is a new technical method to separate the chemical inside the mixture. I can use this method to separate the dyes of the grape soda. The chemical mixtures in the grape soda will pour through the column and at the bottom the mixture will come out and separately. That …show more content…
The stationary phase is the fixed phase and go through stationary phase. It also maybe a solid, for example, a paper. The particles remain the same and do not move. Mobile phase is the moving phase and it can be a liquid or a gas.Stationary phase is individual absorbent.
Stationary phase and mobile phase is reversed phase. Stationary phase is unmovable. Its particles are known as silicon dioxide. When molecules attach stationary phase, they do not move. They will instract with different chemical. In my experiment,I am using space sand to separate the dyes. So space sand contain silica. Mobile phase is moveable and also known as eluent. Eluent is the liquid that pour into the column. When the molecules add mobile phase, the molecules related the stationary phase,so they will go through them. The purpose of mobile phase go through the column and the particles come out separately. It also know as solvent. That way stationary phase is solute that solvent can flow through solute. The particles that come out in the bottom of the column is known as eluate, which is the eluent that being …show more content…
The two pigment colors are red and blue. These two colors mix together will get purple. And there maybe more grape soda come out and less dyes come out separately.I think it’s because the space sand absorbed the dyes inside the grape soda and left the grape soda.
To conclude, column chromatography is a method that can help separate the chemical in the grape soda. The dyes in the soda is harmful and unnatural. Stationary phase and mobile phase can help separate the chemicals and see which dyes or fruit coloring come out fast. The research that i gathered helped me understand better about how and why I am going to do my experiment in the way that other people do.It also supported my hypothesis. It supported my hypothesis because I research that how they are separate with stationary phase and mobile phase. They will help me determine the amount of red more or the amount of
