X-ray crystallography is a very important form of microscopy, commonly used to study protein structures at an atomic level. It is in this way that we can better understand how proteins interact, change and catalyze reactions, going so far as to one day design our own drugs for a specific purpose. Below is a simple diagram of how X-ray crystallography works. Please choose the best answer according to what you have learned in class.
(A) X-ray is chosen as the light source because of the high energy required to excite the electrons of the samples.
(B) The 2-D diffraction pattern needs to undergo Fourier analysis in order to become a 3-D atomic model.
