In Flipped by Wendelin van Draanen, the character Chester Duncan has a growth mindset. The character Patsy stated “ We’re having the Backers over for dinner “ Chester heaps on a fried egg and says “ That, Patsy is a marvelous idea.” So while everyone sort of complained about the future dinner, he was excited for them to come over. “He pulled his own work gloves and a pair of clippers from a back pocket and said Are you pruning all of these to the same size?” Instead of just watching Juli fix up her yard by herself he went over to help her
instead of watching her do it by herself through a window. So Chester Duncan is a great example/ demonstration of a growth mindset. He helped Juli with her yard when everyone else just watched her and didn’t even bother to help. Chet didn’t think how Rick Loskis did. Negitave and mean, Chester had sympathy towards Juli and her family. This mindset didn’t really change some of the Losikis idea of the Backers until the end part of the book. This is similar to Dork Dairies everyone thinks that Niki is a weird girl. But two girls thought different and they ended up becoming good friends like Chett and Juli.
