The first time he was in the hospital, he was only four years old where he was found with two broken ribs and a fractured arm. The little boy cries and remembers that his babysitter was the one to cause him all the pain. According to Child Abuse and Neglect Statistics, "Over million children will become victims of child abuse this year" (CANS). "Child abuse is the non-accidental commission of any act by a caretaker upon a child under age 18 which causes, or creates a substantial risk of, physical or emotional injury; or constitutes a sexual offense under the laws of the Commonwealth; or any sexual contact between a parent/guardian/caretaker and a child under 18" (Mass Gov). There are different types of child abuse: physical, sexual and emotional.
The famous cases of child abuse include the Brianna Lopez case, and The Country Walk case. The case of Brianna Lopez is about a baby girl who was abused by her mother, father, and uncle. They would slap, punch, pinch, throw and rape her. Brianna's grandparents knew what was happening to her, but they wouldn't do anything to help her. The poor girl had no one. On July 18, 2002, Brianna's whole family got drunk. Her father and uncle would toss her up to the ceiling to hit her head, the baby girl would cry from the pain. The next morning Brianna's mother, Stephanie noticed that Brianna had bruises all over her, but ignored it. Later on, Stephanie decided to call the ambulance and rushed Briana to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at "11:10AM. She was just 5 months and 5 days old" (NAASCA). Brianna's father and uncle were sentenced to 18 years in prison. Her mother, Stephanie Lopez was charged of negligent child abuse after she did not do anything to help her daughter. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison
Frank Fuster and Ileana Fuster were accused of sexually molesting many children in their County Walk daycare. This started when a three year old boy had acted differently towards his mother. The little boy told his mother that Ileana kisses all the babies body. The mother got worried and called the Dade County child protection authorities. The police try to find evidence when they interview 20 children when the little children told horrible details, but that was not enough. The evidence was enough when they tested Frank's son, Noel of physical abuse. Also Ileana confessed to the abuse. The end result was that Ileana got sentenced 3 years in prison and Frank got sentenced to life with
