For the purpose of this assignment I shall be discussing what child poverty is, the factors of child poverty in the United Kingdom and how child poverty will be tackled. In the UK families have a prime responsibility to nurture and care for their children through various development stages (UNICEF 2012 ). Child poverty can happen from the break up of families, being in debt, poor education or unfortunately an orphan or born in to the situation (BBC, 2012). All children have the right to embark on the best possible start to life, within a secure and happy environment with support into adulthood and the opportunity for potential.
One third of the UK has the worst child poverty rate in the European Union, however child poverty is three times higher than 20 years ago and one in five children live in a family where no one goes out to work (Poverty UK 2012 ). According to the (Department of Health 2011) child poverty can limit children and therefore less likely to acquire sufficient potential in life. Struggling is then often handed down through the generations therefore poor children would often become poor adults. Research shows that children will move in and out of 'poverty ' over their lives, this shows that particular groups of children will endeavour to be poor year on year (Natcen 2010). As a result many factors combine together to affect the health of individuals and communities, whether people are healthy or not. These circumstance are often called the determinants of health such as the environment, genetics, income, employment, education, the condition of houses, crime relationships with family and friends (Who 2011). However the causes of child poverty can be direct or indirect. Lack of resource is a direct cause of child poverty, suitable employment and discrimination occasionally can also be seen as an indirect cause. However high cost of living, low wages, structure of the family can also play a role in causing a high level
