Unit1 Childcare.
The first statutory childcare setting I chosen is primary school. Primary school children are age’s between5-11. Schools exists because there is a law that states that all children should be educated from ages 5 to 16 years and this education is provided by the government if the school is public, for private school you have to pay fees.
Primary schools follow Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum; primary schools follow the NC of key stage 1 and key stage 2. NC stands for National Curriculum and this means that a common programme of study in schools that is designed to ensure nationwide uniformity of content and standards in education. The children in primary schools learn …show more content…
through books, plays, activities and engaging in creative activities. Compulsory subjects that are taught in primary school are: English, maths, science, design and technology, history, geography, art and design, music, physical education, including swimming, information and communication technology. They must also provide religious education, but it’s not necessary. Primary school employees will usually ask you for GCSE grade C or above in Maths, English and Science, QTS is also one of the important thing you need to go in to teaching QTS stands for certified teacher status, which means that they went through a higher level of education and a training to become a teacher. You will also need a degree, usually a teaching degree if you are going to teach primary as that covers all areas of primary curriculum. School normally starts at 8:30 and finishes at 3:20 but it can be slightly different in different areas depending on where you live. It is compulsory for the parents/guardian to pick up their children till they are 10 years old.
The second setting is a non-statutory provision which is a private nursery, this is an organization set up to provide health, education and social care for young children in a safe environment full of facilities you might not have at home and full trained teachers. This provision of learning before the commencement of statutory and obligatory education, usually between ages 2-5. The reason why this provision is non statutory is because you do not have to send your child to private nursery by law. This might be a good option to busy full time working parents or single parents that work and need help with looking after their kids. You can have different pre-school session’s morning to afternoon are usually from 8:00 – 12:00 or you can have an afternoon session which will be from 13:00 – 18:00 but you can also speak to the owners and set up the times that suit you. Children do various kinds of activities like learning their abc’s learning how to count, learn colours, most of this is based on a higher level. They go outside to play explore the nature, they also read books and learn how to draw. They have some free time to play. Some private nursery’s take on unqualified staff and help them gain either NVQ level 2 or level 3 in children’s care learning and development CCLD Children’s Care, Learning and Development. You need at least 1 year of work experience to do level3, you can do the course part time at any college, but you would need to be working at least 3 sessions per week in a setting, this could be voluntary or paid.
Karolina Przednikowska One agency who works with children is social services. This is a statutory service, organised at a local level. Their job is to form a relationship with people and assist them to live more successfully with the local community. Social Services are a professional agency who keeps academic discipline to improve quality of life and well-being. They not only include personal help but also things like health care, public housing and social security.
Social services main responsibility as a local agency is to provide range of care support and safeguard for children and families. This will include help families with children that are in need including disabled children, children who might be suffering from significant harm, early intervention and family support and other things like children who require looking after by local authority like fostering or children who are placed for adoption. They make sure that children go to schools; help them get benefits they allow to open doors and give opportunities to families who need help. The duty services are also to take referrals from anyone who has concerns about a child who might be at risk of harm.
Qualification you might need to be or become a social service worker would be English, Maths and Science a*-c. Economics, sociology, law, medicine, philosophy, psychology and minimum one degree at a high level. The main qualification for social work is the undergraduate Bachelor 's degree (BA, BSc or BSW) in social work, offered at British Universities. You can also do a master’s degree for social worker or a diploma.
In a childcare setting all information about the child should be kept confidential because this is set of rules that should be respected by the member of stuff as the professional, keeping certain information to yourself and do not share them with anyone outside or inside the circle. You should be protecting any private information because parents of the child does not want to share them with anyone else, you should never write notes in a child setting or if you do make sure you destroy it after or keep it in a safe place no one will find it, don’t leave anything laying around so other people don’t find the information you don’t want to share. Don’t discuss information with any other then the legal individual. Keep all the informations in files away from sight. If you write notes don’t write their names write child x or their initials. Breaking confidentiality can be very serious and it might even take higher consequences like you getting discarded from your work. You need to know how to maintain confidentiality because the parents and other stuff need to be able to trust you.
Reasons for breaking confidentiality are only if there is evidence that the child is at risk and its effecting their health and well-being or when there is a reasonable believe that the child might be at significant harm or risk, before taking the problem further you should only refer the information’s to a professional like the manger or owner of the setting, they have the right to inform the police.
Preparing for a placement with children is very important because you will work with different rage of placements for example: nursery, primary schools, and private schools. You will be involved with many different children with different ages. Every work setting will be different depending on staff, premises, function, outlook and attitude. It will be very beneficial if you research the place you want to go to, go on the official school website, go speak directly to the manager to speak about your duties and responsibilities, see if you would be able to do those things. This is plenty to learn from those who experienced it, they will help

You gain the information you need and you can observe their actions based on how they act with children. You need to be ready to take actions for children’s individual needs and the necessity for fairness. The first impression in a child care setting is very important because people are quick to judge you on the first time they meet you, you need to look presentable especially when you want to work with children it’s not only what you wear that counts but also your personal hygiene, you have to dress according to the placement, you can’t be dressed in heels and tight mini dresses, revelling clothes and have so much make up on because that will not look right especially if you are trying to get a place to work with children, no jewellery in case child pull on it which might hurt you or the child, things like long earrings are not safe in childcare setting if you do have to wear them wear studs which will be more suitable, also no necklaces and bracelets. Wear flat shoes like trainers or pumps, comfortable clothing like leggings, tracksuit polo t-shirt. For the interview dress very smart and appropriate, when you work with the children the placement should provide you with uniform or they should tell you what you have to buy as a uniform.
If you do get into a job to work with children you have to make sure that you act appropriate because children are highly sensitive especially the younger ones, you are a good role model to them so children will learn from how they see us act rather than from anything we tell them. This might put you under lot of stress as in you have to be very careful how you act around them and even what you tell them. Children often copy what adults, so it is crucial that we use appropriate language and body language. Show respect for the children by listening what they have to say and help them with if they have a problem, children have to see that your pleasant and good hearted. As a teacher you have to have limits, you can get comfortable with a child but only to a certain extent, remember you are their teacher not a friend. You can be friendly but not friends, try not to form a close relationship with the children and not to take their parents place. Even if your friend’s child attends to the place you work at you should not favour them or treat them different from the others.
In a child care setting it is very important that you avoid stereotyping, labelling and favouritism, your duty is to teach the children equality.
As a practitioner in the setting all children should be as important and you should treat them equal. Treating children equal means thinking about each child as an individual and treat them with the same concern you treat the rest of the children. Every child has their own ways and is unique, you will get a chance to meet the differences and individual needs. Racism, age and ethnicity is the common stereotype that children see and decided to act on because we live in a place with people from different countries that speak different languages and look different than others. People often judge people on what colour skin they are and where they come from this is called discrimination. Girls don’t always have to play with dolls and boys don’t always have to play with cars, you should always engage all the children with the same activities, so no child feels left out or discriminated. Discrimination refers to the practice of treating people differently. When working with children you should highly avoid all of those things. Try to celebrate all cultural festivals like Christmas, Eid, and Diwali.
Allow the children to learn about different types of traditions and all countries. Teach children about different countries and languages, you can for example write hello in all different languages and make a poster. You can put up a picture of different foods from different
countries. Positive attitude when working with children in very important as some children might need more time than other, others might need more attention. As a good role model you should make the children feel that they are valued, children learn moral values by examples and imitation. If the child is loved and feels secures within their family, they will develop confidence and self-esteem and they will find it easier to form relationship with others.

Those attitudes are formed by values like love non-violence, love, good behaviour. Your job is to make the child feel good about them for example: complement the work and behaviour, speak to them if you feel like they have a problem. The way in which we are bought up and the behaviour we see around us will form us to form an opinion and make decisions in life. The things we see and hear from early childhood like our parents, primary school, family and friends will help to guide the child onto the right path, when they see, hear and feel good things it will give the positive effect on the child’s development.
My preferred learning is visual type of learning because I learn from seeing things more than anything else and I quickly get distracted from any little movement I see. I often have everything ready so I don’t have to do anything when I’m trying to study. I use text book and record things into my brain then I often draw diagrams pictures and write notes with that I saw and read. Text books are often very helpful information as it is mostly what we learn in school. During my lesson I try to take notes and draw diagrams to help me remember all the things in have learnt in a lesson. I try to keep everything tidy and clean. I use pink sticky notes in my planer to help me keep on track with my work and where I’m at. I seem to use the internet the most, some websites have lot information’s and so it helps me to choose and give me ideas.
