Childhood obesity in america is a medical condition that needs major attention. Obesity is defined as having extra body fat. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past thirty years. There are major health risk linked with childhood obesity such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and high cholestoral. 1 out of 3 children are condidered obese in america today. The percentage of overweight children in the united states is growing at a alarming rate. According to a report in the Trust of America, 38 states are now overweight and most among children. The research questions 1,826 Boston area mothers looked into many lifestyle habits. Some included starting solid foods before 4 months and introduce fast food at a young age. Nearly every lifestyle risk was more revelant in African American children. The findings were published in the March 2010 Journal, "Pediatrics". According to the Office of Minority Health four out of five woman are obese. The causes of this include a variety of health and economic issues, but its also important to point out that family trends contribute to this alarming stat. There is a clear coralation between health and wellness of parents and thier kids. Programs on childhood obesity at schools could help prevent the increased rate of obesity thats grwoing in america. In the united states kids between the ages of 6-11 who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to almost 20% in 2008. The most effective way to combat is through eduacation programs in the schools, because thats where the majority of where children spend their day. Changing the beverages and foods available in schools will help aid this solution as well. Some communities have adopted the "farm to school" program.
