Assessment Criteria
The learner can: 1.1 Describe why creative development is important to children’s learning
Creative development is important to a child’s learning because it helps them to use their mind and imagination and express their own ideas, and through playing with their friends it also helps them to understand that all family’s and cultures can be different. It helps them to make connections in their thinking and the way in which they problem solve, by doing things over and over again they reinforce their thinking and learning, they develop self-esteem, confidence, imagination & learning to work together in groups. It puts down the foundations for more complex learning.
1.2. Describe how creative development links to other areas of learning and development within the framework related to own work setting.
Creative development can link to many other areas of development. For example, through sand play the children are developing a whole range of skills, they are using their physical development to manipulate and mould the sand, they are developing their personal, social, communication, language & literacy skills through playing together and chattering to one another learning to share and take turns with utensils they are also developing their problem solving, reasoning and numeracy skills through building the sand up to make sand castles.
The framework that we use in our nursery in the foundation phase, and with this we choose an activity and then link it to an area of development e.g. social & emotional, we observe the children in their play and keep observation notes on the area that we are linking the activity to.
