It is a traditional custom that the family members from everywhere hurry back home to join a big dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year. It is a significant reunion. It is a traditional way to enjoy this at home. However, in recent years, many families have another choice of having dinner at restaurants. In my view, I prefer to have dinner at home. There are several reasons to justify my view, some of which are as follows.
Firstly, it is a time-honored tradition for Chinese people to eat family reunion dinner at home during the Spring Festival. The meal is an important as it is big farewell to the past and usher the New Year with joy. With the rapid development, more and more different culture elements are blended in China. Thus, under the pressure of different other exotic culture, some Chinese traditional customs have been changing. That is the reason why I insist to have a dinner at home. I think it is the best way to maintain our culture.
Secondly, seen from an economic perspective, it is beyond questioning that eating at home is much cheaper than going to restaurant. As we know, most of the restaurants in order to seek handsome profit from their customers, tag their foods with high price. Compared to this, we can use money in much more efficient way if we choose to cook at home, and also can deal with unfinished food easily, keep them in the refrigerator instead of wasting.
Thirdly, that will be enjoyable process of preparing food and eating dinner. Since the food is prepared by ourselves, we will get a sense of accomplishment, and we will have most important dinner of a year in the celebrative atmosphere of home.
Taking into account all the above listed reasons, it is quite understandable why I prefer to eat at home on the Eve of Chinese New Year.
