What is the meaning of Thanksgiving?
Throughout our history as a nation, Americans have celebrated this day of family friends, and a big meal.
However, somewhere along the way we have lost the true meaning of thanksgiving
Instead, of being a feasting day for the people, Thanksgiving has become a feast for corporations as they disgustingly profit off the pockets of Americans.

What is Thanksgiving about?
To figure this out we must first know why we celebrate thanksgiving.
A staff member from History.com gives a brief history lesson on the original meaning of Thanksgiving,”in 1789 George Washington issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation by the national government of the United States; in it, he called upon Americans to express their gratitude

“A Native American Thanksgiving”, written by Beverly Cox and Clara Sue Kidwell, is an informational article including recipes, all relating to Native American culture. They begin this piece by dating back to the earliest known facts of “Thanksgiving” between the Pilgrims and the Indians. Cox and Kidwell set out to show the reader the real meaning behind this holiday. Pointing out that Americans only give thanks once a year, they go in depth about the Native American’s beliefs of giving appreciations. Indians would give credit and acknowledgment to the spirits of nature throughout the year in hopes for generosity in upcoming hunting and planting seasons, considering farming was an important part of Indian life. This material allows Cox and Kidwell…

If we consider the background history of the United States, it would be hard to distinguish one America from another since we all are one way a country made up of immigrants and those who are also citizens. Thanksgiving is as much a holiday for all people, but one especially for those first immigrants, the settlers. Then, the other settlers that came particularly, from Ireland, Italy, France and Germany. Afterwards they came from as far as Russia and even China. Thanksgiving has been viewed as a day of gratitude, spending time with family, and eating lots and lots of turkey. However, recently, Americans have seen Thanksgiving night as preparation for the next day which held many irrefutable offers in all stores. Instead of giving thanks for all the blessings they have, families are going over their strategies of how they are going to take advantage of the next day. Some argue that we’ve lost meaning of Thanksgiving as a nation. I agree with this statement because Black Friday has negatively impacted the masses so much that in order to prevent any mishaps from occurring the government might have to take a stand.…

Due to the fact that I was not born in the United States, I didn’t learn American history; therefore, my knowledge about pilgrims is very limited. I know the basics about how Thanksgiving came to be. There was a Native American who helped teach the pilgrims to plant corn by using dead fish as fertilizer. His name was Squanto. The pilgrims and the natives came together and feasted on turkey. Thanksgiving became a holiday and turkey became the main dish.…

Every Thanksgiving, my family gets up early to drive down to New York, where we meet with aunts, uncles, cousins, and my Grandmother. Over the course of the day, delicious smells materialize as heaping mashed potatoes, green beans sautéed with onions and turkey bacon, and sweet potato casserole topped with bubbling marshmallow join the turkey on the serving table as I breathlessly await the early dinner.…

Thanksgiving is the time of year you give thanks to God for the bountiful harvest. Thanksgiving is now a statutory holiday in most parts of Canada, with the exception of the Atlantic provinces. In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. I remember the cold Monday morning in 2009 when my whole family got together and celebrated Thanksgiving. We usualy dont celebrate thnaksgiving but this time my cousins insisted we do. All of our close reletives came to my cousin's house and celebrated it. Even though we didnt have the traditional thanksgiving dinner it was good. We had a great time and it was the first time all of our relatives were together (exept weddings). I think Thanksgiving is important because it shows how…
