Christianity Today Assignment

In the article, “Christianity Today Revisited” from the magazine, Christianity Today the author analyses one of the earliest articles of the magazine, “Why Christianity Today?” for the sixtieth anniversary of the company. The main point of the original article expresses the company’s mission statement as well as their purpose for opening. The notes made by the recent writer, Ted Olson, discuss the main points in changes made by the company. The main purpose for Christianity Today, per the original article is to tell the current generation about Christianity from a Biblical perspective. It states how the world seems to be searching for meaning anywhere they can find it. Christianity Today believes all the confusion and turmoil going on in
the world would cease to exist if people began to seek God through the Scriptures and prayer. The current article supports the original claim of accuracy in the Scriptures and their application to everyday life. The purpose of Christianity Today has not changed very much over the years, their mission and method is much the same today as it was sixty years ago. A few small changes have been made to the company’s policy, however. For example, Christianity Today has more recently begun defending the faith using the gospel as their starting point, instead of simply presenting Christianity to the world. This is a good idea because there is no point in presenting a belief if one is unable to defend said belief. Also, this Scriptural foundation helps Christianity Today writers when they are presented with liberalist theology that contradicts Scripture’s authority and God’s power. This article shows why Christianity Today began with its foundational principles. Aside from a few small changes, Christianity Today has upheld the foundational principles of the company. The author got his point across by using many statistics and quotes from Billy Graham.
