Christmas Day Hunt Analysis

I think the main theme of the story Christmas day hunt by Borden Deal is don't convince yourself that you are good enough to do something if you aren't. The reason I think this is because in the beginning, Tom's dad ignored him probably because he doesn't even think tom is old enough. tom thinks he is old enough to go hunting but he really isn't because he can hardly carry the gun let alone walk with it all day. The final reason i think that is the main theme is because after he misses several quail he accidentally hits his dog and angers his dad. After more hunters get to the land one of the men brings an young pup for Tom to raise and train. In the end Tom finally earns his dad's respect. in the end tom tells his pup "We'll be going," I
told him, as he licked at my chin. "One of these days, when you're dog and I'm a man, we'll be right out there with the best of them."
