Civil War: Forgive And Forget

Forgive and forget. Survive and don’t take glances at what was left behind. Many of us live true to these words, forgetting the events that led our country to its prosperous state. Wars and contentions once ravaged our land of freedom and equality, but as time passes, they fade from our recollection. Men fought for justice, believing in what they thought to be true. After the Civil War ended, southerners erected statues and memorials in honor of the men who bravely led and fought alongside their soldiers. Today, there are those who wish to tear down these monuments, but I personally believe we should allow them to remain standing. Our country has its flaws. Some of them we cannot fix, but there are those we can. History seems to be thrown under the rug, and if we don’t do something about it we may end up repeating history. Men fought bravely for their beliefs, and while some statues, including memorials remembering leaders and commanders that ended up helping terrorist groups
We cannot forget our past, because it’s what makes our country the place that it is. Without the tension and collisions against one another we would still be under the previous ideals and statutes most people in the U.S. had at a certain time. If we forget about our history and what brought about our freedom and equality, we will end up repeating the same mistakes we made a century ago. History will be doomed to repeat itself, and we’ll have done nothing about it. The monuments and memorials of the leaders who fought hard for their states believed leaving their country was the right thing to do, and while that was wrong, they eventually were forced to come back. They were still our countrymen though, and we tried to treat them with respect and humility. Our country was formed in the midst of conflict, but we still emerged triumphant and well as a
