Before war between the two territories, the North and the South of America, there were many more differences other than having different views on slavery, the two sides have different ways of life, economy, and beliefs. But you may be surprised by how similar the North and South are.
There are some similarities between the two sides, the Northern and Southern parts of America. Both a part of the United States Of America, they also are immigrants first originating from Europe. Both of the sides have pride while believing in regionalism, and sectionalism. These two regions also all once fought together against England for their freedom in 1775-1783, which had formed into America, a very populated country.
Though they may
have those similarities they were very different. The Northern Territory had outlawed the importation and use of slaves. But the South had still believed the idea that slavery is the reason why their economy is so great. North states had also paid immigrant to work, while the South had given the immigrants no pay while working.
A second way the two regions are different, is by the economy. The North had become very popular with the mass amount of factories producing many items. After the tariff act of 1860 many goods that were imported would have higher prices. Making the North, a supplier to all the states. While this was occurring the South’s economy was dependent on farming. They produced much Cotton, with the help of the invention of the cotton gin. Because of this many southerners needed slaves to work in on the fields to collect the cotton.
The last difference between the two, were their beliefs. The Northerns had believed in Nationalism, while the south had believed in independence or the right to disagree with their government. The North had also thought that Federal law overpowers state law, and the South disagreed completely. The southerners believed in the state law is far more important than the federal law.
Those were a few reasons why the two regions are similar and different, views on slavery, beliefs, and economy as well as the similarities of being both sides American and the pride in being a sectionalist. With all their differences the Southerners broke away from the union creating, the Confederate States of America.
