For this assignment, the topic chosen is “The Early Republic and the American Civil War”. The reason to choose this topic is that it marks one of the greatest events in history of America. Also, many primary sources, such as newspaper articles and photographs can be easily found on the internet. The first source used is a newspaper article from Civil War times. Newspapers are a great source, as they provide an impact of the war on the local people and reflect the historical event as seen by the journalists of that time.

The newspaper addresses the African Americans as Yankees, and the glory of the white people and the downfall of black people is defined. The article says that the enemies have accepted their defeat and are slowly withdrawing from the eastern state, and the army of the state and the navy is enjoying success. The story, as told by the article, includes information about the killing of major black army leaders who were fighting with the Americans in the East. The article also describes the glorious moments of the American force and how they are able to retrieve the black people and were able to force the black to move backwards. (N.a, 1863). However, if we look at the history of the American Civil War as described by Norton, we do not find any such incident in which the black people were at the edge of losing. There were many killings of black people, but they did not lose hope and there was not a single day in which black people did not fight. The results also indicate that blacks did struggle and fought with great courage. They did not have any kind of army or military, but yet they were able to take their rights from the whites. The reason for the success of the Civil War was that blacks were much deprived of their rights and were not considered humans. Slavery led them to stand up for their rights. (Norton,
