Still around 12- 25 million Africans were stolen and taken to the new world where they would be worked to the brink of death everyday. 3 million would die before they even got to the new world. “By the 1787 constitutional convention there were only 2 northern states that had gotten rid of slavery but the southern government officials feared this development.”(136). This caused the rift between the abolitionists that wanted to get rid of slavery, who were the northern states vs. the southern states that advocated and strongly agreed that we should stay pro slavery. These were the foundations of the civil war that would happen when the topic of slavery comes to a boiling point. But the constitution had to be drafted so the founding fathers created the constitution without really addressing the issue of slavery. If only they did, slavery might have been very different in history. When we get to the early 1800s we see an act being passed which finally said there will be no importation of slaves into the United States. Through decades of back and forth between the two, finally when the south said if Abe Lincoln was elected they would leave the Union. Once the southern representatives went back home they drafted their own congress, own leaders and much more, making their own state and this is the civil war. Through the events of southern states saying they had rights and power, the federal government couldn't tell them what to do. The war erupted. The north/federal government had the resources that the south didn't, so they won the civil war. Along with this, Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation which “freed slaves held in the Confederate States of America. (the north)”(160) because of this 200k former slaves joined the war tipping it in Lincoln's favor. After the war Lincoln had a stipulation for the south to join the union again; they had to ratify the 13th amendment with 10 percent of the south voting yes. which would end slavery, but before Lincoln could do this he was assassinated. Hos. Vice President Andrew Johnson was vice president, so he took over getting rid of these plans, but Congress had other
