Civilians Are Innocent Bystanders In War Essay
Civilians are innocent bystanders in war. Civilians do not change anything during total war, soldiers are the only people who can affect war. Civilians have no reason to be targeted during total war. These statements are false. Civilians, in fact, play a big role for a country at war. Civilians should be targeted in total war conflict.
Total war has no limitations on the destruction it brings. Total war is defined as a war that is unrestricted in terms of the weapons used, the territory or combatants involved, or the objectives pursued, especially one in which the laws of war are disregarded. Total wars are not limited in any way, any weapon can be used, any territory can be taken over, any objective can be pursued, and any person can be killed.

For example, terrorists can look like regular citizens until the moment of attack. The term civilian has become obsolete because civilians can be used to gain access to enemy territory to commit espionage (USS
Clueless). Civilians can be used as a direct passage for the enemy to get into country.
There are no limitations on what total wars can bring. New weapons and improved fighting methods create a new, more advanced style of warfare. Recently, working civilians have become a greater importance to countries. Civilians should not be the exception not to kill in the current method of combat. The citizens that belong to the opposing country have the same viewpoint and mindset as that country and its army , which makes them the enemy. When attacking, why would you let your enemy go unopposed and do whatever they want? Citizens of the enemy country are enemies, no matter their job, political stance, or how ‘innocent’ they are.
Civilians are the heart and soul of a country and its government. Without loyal working civilians, a country is nothing, it would be in ruin. With the economy in shambles the country would not survive very long. Civilians are an essential resource to make a government

What if this is an unnecessary step to winning in combat, that the number of casualties could be greatly limited to a smaller number? Today, hundreds of thousands of people in Joint Task Forces are putting their lives in danger in Afghanistan, Iraq and even the surrounding bodies of water for the greater good. The technique that is frequently used in combat, that dates back to the American Revolution, is called Guerrilla Warfare, and is fought by small teams of four to eight people; these small groups are called Special Forces. Many argue that the use of sniper teams and Special Forces in combat is unethical and even more for unconventional weapons, although unconventional warfare is often the reason to a quick ending war and results in thousands, even millions of lives being saved.…

They outline that civilian defense forces as a permanent and defensive form of pro-government militia that officials will often use to harness civilians during a counterinsurgency campaign. The authors argue that a civilian defense forces will reduce the problem of insurgent identification. This will lead to a reduction in state violence that targets civilians. Nevertheless, they also claim that these actors can and will undermine civilian support for insurgents, which can lead to rise in rebel violence targeting civilians and overall escalation of violence. the evidence in this article shows that a permanent civilian defense forces decreases the state’s use of indiscriminate violence, but causes a rise in insurgent violence. They also demonstrated that by making civilians the epicenter of the unconventional war effort, civilian defense forces increase the overall loss of life in civil conflicts, at least in the short run. “This underscores the significance of civilian support and control in determining the type and level of violence in civil wars” (Clayton…

Each country has its own perspective on world order and not all meets eye to eye. But it can be argued that world order is a necessity in today’s society. There are many conflicts between majorities and minorities or nation against nation that can take many forms such as guerilla, military and nuclear warfare. An example of a military conflict was the Gulf war between Iraq and the UN lead forces concerning the occupation of Kuwait. But not all conflicts fit into the category of direct confrontation; some arise when a group ignores the needs of another or exploits them. For example after a long civil war in 1996 when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. Many measures severely restricted women’s rights and alienated other Afghans. Due to an imbalance of economic power further conflicts can arise such as when a third world country cannot compete with developed nations because of the lack of capital they possess.…

The idea of war brings up many questions about life and death, suffering, and consequences. While many people may see war as something that affects people as a whole, such as nations or a persecuted group, war further impacts every individual, whether or not they are directly involved. War limits freedoms and individualism, and in most cases people find themselves with less rights than during peacetime. People base their choices not on what they feel, and more on what they have to do to survive. Soldiers and civilians alike are influenced by war in different ways, however, these tie together when the overall effects of war are examined.…

The industrialization of warfare not only helped modernize, but also helped war become much more strategic. However, it also led to many innocent civilians being caught in the crossfire of their countries' feuding. Civilians were often targeted and subjected to mistreatment due to multiple factors, which include their race, nationality, and/or their association with the war. This led to countless instances of innocent men, women, and children experiencing immense suffering and struggles at the hands of both soldiers and cruel leaders. Many of these civilians were subjected to not only inhumane treatment but also dehumanization.…

As the case study covered in this study demonstrates, “peacemaking and post-conflict reconstruction are best achieved by addressing structural injustices. Peacemaking has everything to do with the ongoing management of social and political conflicts through good governance. It encompasses the entrenching of respect for human rights and political pluralism, and the elimination of economic injustice” (Cheru 2002, 196).…

Fellow members of SIDE, I am Omar Graffigna, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force of Argentina. While I do not directly partake in the repression of socialist dissidents of ESP and Montoneros, I believe this dirty warfare is reasonable in order to maintain regularity in our government. I have begun the Condor Missile Program and consistently make decisions on air force matters. I have researched missile technology and allocated funds for our program. I plan to use my unique skill set to create an asymmetrical warfare advantage for us that will terminate leftist and Peronist groups while causing the least amount of animosity and blood shed for both sides of the conflict.…

Civilians have the responsibility of voting, paying taxes, serving jury duty, following the laws of the government, and defending the constitution. Though these tasks are not as dire as those that military men and women endure, these responsibilities are still crucial to the success of our country. Without civilians performing these responsibilities, America would be plagued with turmoil and poverty. We are fortunate to have such hard working men and women who make and deliver goods and strive to keep America’s economy in working order. We are fortunate to have skilled engineers who keep America looking to the future.…
